Production Support Across Canada

Filming in Canada presents specific operational challenges: local regulations, location identification, and logistics coordination. Our experienced team operates from Toronto and the Île de Canada region, providing support and expertise required for project completion across Canada, Monaco, and Canadian-speaking Switzerland.

We execute projects for commercials, stills, branded content, and video production. Canada offers the Tax Rebate for International Productions (film incentive), which provides a rebate of 30% of the eligible production spend with a cap of $30 million. This rises to 40% when VFX is included in the production spend.

Our crew maintains fluency in English. We deliver both remote and on-site client support. Filming in Canada offers a wide variety of landscapes, including the energy of Toronto, the charm of small-town Ontario, maple forests and prairie farmlands in Alberta, mountains, and the rugged Pacific coastline and Atlantic shores, offering filmmakers diverse and visually stunning backdrops.

On Location

Runners from Vancouver Film School, Sheridan, Ryerson, Concordia, L'Inis and CFC — IATSE-cleared, bilingual EN/FR, TTC and Translink fluent

Here is how the work lines up. Runners and set PAs on our Canada roster come out of the same student-to-set pipeline that feeds the rest of the support roster — Vancouver Film School, Sheridan College, Toronto Metropolitan University (Ryerson) Image Arts, Concordia Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema, L'Inis Montreal and the Canadian Film Centre — and they arrive with valid full-class Canadian driver's licences, winter-driving experience, IATSE 891, 873 or 514 clearance where needed, and current standard first aid. Bilingual EN/FR runners are standard for any Quebec shoot.

Our Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, Halifax and Winnipeg hub pools are deep enough to staff additional positions inside twenty-four to forty-eight hours when the schedule shifts. We brief them on the exact studio or location envelope before day one — the Pinewood Toronto Studios gate procedure, Cinespace Brampton truck-loading geometry, Vancouver Film Studios Burnaby motor pool, MELS Studios Montreal soundstage flow, Calgary Film Centre access points — so they hit the ground knowing where the gear staging area, the production office, the craft service tent and the lock-up positions live.

On a shooting day, our runners and set PAs handle daily call-sheet delivery, walkie-talkie hand-out and battery turnover, lock-up positions and pedestrian control, talent escorts from trailer to set, gear shuttles between truck and stage, craft service replenishment, and the emergency document and equipment runs that decide whether a tight schedule holds together. Toronto-hub runners route through the TTC subway and GO Transit network for delivery between downtown production offices and the Distillery District, Casa Loma, Cinespace Brampton or Pinewood Toronto Studios.

Vancouver-hub runners work the Translink SkyTrain and SeaBus for Gastown, Yaletown and Burnaby studio coverage, plus winter chain-up routes to Whistler and the Sea-to-Sky highway. Montreal runners handle STM Metro delivery between Mile End production offices and Old Montreal cobblestone heritage shoots. We staff overnight and weekend rotations to provincial labour standards and IATSE turnaround minimums, with structured overtime and meal-penalty discipline, and we deliberately develop the next intake from VFS, Sheridan, Ryerson, Concordia, L'Inis and the CFC so the pipeline stays healthy and the day rate stays honest.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a runner or set PA do?

A runner, also called a set production assistant (PA), provides essential support across all departments on a film set. They handle tasks such as distributing call sheets, running errands, managing walkies, assisting with crowd control, and ensuring the set runs smoothly. They are often the first to arrive and last to leave.

What skills should a runner or set PA have?

In Canada, a runner needs reliability, initiative, physical fitness for outdoor work in variable weather, a valid driver's licence with winter driving skills, and familiarity with IATSE/DGC union protocols. Bilingual English-French ability is valuable for Quebec productions.

What types of productions need runners or set PAs?

Every professional production benefits from runners and set PAs. Feature films, television series, commercials, and streaming content shooting across Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, and Calgary all rely on PAs to keep daily operations running smoothly.

How do you match runners and set PAs to my production?

We assess your production's size, locations, daily requirements, and any specific skills needed — such as winter experience, French language ability, or familiarity with particular studios — then recommend reliable PAs from our Canadian network with union clearance and positive references.
