On Location

On-set production crews across Canada

Here is the breakdown. Canada's production scene spans urban centres like Vancouver, Montreal, and Calgary alongside remote boreal forests, Atlantic coastlines, and the vast interior of the Yukon. Our production team is built to operate across all of these settings, delivering on-set filming and tech work to broadcast and theatre specs wherever your project takes us. We assemble camera departments, lighting and grip packages, and sound crews who bring both tight tech and genuine creative instinct to each day on set, no matter location.

Crews sized to the project, not a template β€” lean enough for Yukon backcountry, technical enough for studio work in Toronto.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. Our Camera and Camera work crews have skilled Directors of Photography who work across story, documentary, and commercial formats. For shoots that need movement and precision, we deploy Steadicam and Gimbal ops who keep frames fluid and controlled. When the geography calls for it, our Drone Videography teams are licensed and fully equipped to capture aerial coverage over Canadian cityscapes, coastlines, and wilderness terrain. The Gaffer and Lighting Team lines up each lighting setup with the DP to keep a steady visual look from the first day of principal photography to the last.

FAQs

Production FAQs

Common questions about our production services, crew availability, and equipment support.

What crew sizes can you provide for productions in Canada?

Here is how this works in practice. The production team handles projects which range from two-person documentary production to 150-person feature unit operations. The typical range for commercial work shoots has 15 to 30 staff who consist of a DP and camera team and gaffer with two electrics and key grip with a swing and sound mixer and boom op and extra staff from art department and HMU. We have crewed up Netflix series with full Canadian units and handled single-day corporate interviews with just a shooter and audio. The network scales to fit.

How quickly can you mobilize a crew in Canada?

Toronto-based crew can often mobilize within 24–48 hours for urgent jobsβ€”we've pulled together same-day news crews when stories break. Regional shoots need more runway. Figure 5–7 days minimum for locations outside major cities. The real constraint is mostly gear availability from rental houses, not crew. If you're planning ahead, 2–3 weeks gives us time to assemble the right team rather than just the ready one.

Do your crews speak English?

The department heads who have DPs and gaffers and sound mixers and 1st ADs possess English fluency and have worked on shoots outside their home country. That's a baseline need for our network. Grips, electrics, and PAs differ, but we always make sure someone on each team can translate. For fully Canadian-speaking shoots, we have native crews across each department.

Can you provide equipment along with crew?

We work with Panavision Toronto, William F. White, Sim Video, and other Canadian rental houses daily. The majority of gear packages have crew members who stay with their assigned positions because the gaffer operates from their preferred lighting location. The DP selects the camera gear. Our firm takes care of customs procedures and carnet records for global shoots which choose to bring their own gear. We deliver tested and prepared gear to the site. We never send gear to set without a checkout.

How do Canadian crew rates compare to other countries?

Here is the short of it. Canadian rates are competitive with other major North American markets. Gains and union inputs are factored into day rates. We quote all-in costs so there are no surprises. For longer shoots, federal and provincial tax credits can offset 25-40% of qualifying Canadian spend. This often makes Canada very competitive with other areas.
