Z-CAM V1 Pro, Yi Halo and Insta360 Pro 2 VR capture supported by NFB / ONF Montreal interactive plus Sheridan, UBC, Concordia and Ryerson VR research
Here is how the work lines up. Canadian VR filming sits inside one of the strongest immersive-content infrastructures globally. The National Film Board / Office national du film (NFB / ONF) Montreal hands-on division has shipped Tribeca, SXSW and Sundance VR-award-winning work for more than a decade — its bilingual EN / FR pipeline anchors much of the world's documentary-grade VR — and our coordinators run capture using Z-CAM V1 Pro, Yi Halo and Insta360 Pro 2 stereoscopic VR rigs imported via CBSA ATA carnet alongside resident inventory at Toronto and Vancouver rental houses.
Locations span the same heritage and natural-history catalogue that powers Canadian 360 work — Banff and Jasper Rocky Mountain corridors, Yukon Aurora-belt night shoots under Parks Canada and Yukon Tourism permits, Iqaluit and Nunavut Arctic captures co-ordinated with Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami protocols, Newfoundland Iceberg Alley, and Quebec City UNESCO heritage and Old Montreal francophone-side shoots routed through MELS Cité du cinéma — and our crews handle ambisonic spatial audio via Sennheiser Ambeo and Zoom H3-VR rigs plus head-tracked binaural mixing for Meta Quest, Apple Vision Pro, PlayStation VR and PC VR delivery.
Research teamwork with Sheridan College Oakville digital media programs, UBC Centre for Digital Media, Concordia University Montreal hands-on arts, Ryerson / Toronto Metropolitan University and York University immersive labs anchors the academic side of Canadian VR — these programs feed ops into NFB / ONF Montreal, Felix & Paul Studios and the in-house VR teams at Pixomondo Toronto, DNEG Vancouver and Hybride Saint-Hyacinthe.
Post-production stitching, stereoscopic alignment, VR-exact colour grading and platform-exact delivery move through DNEG Vancouver, Pixomondo Toronto, MELS Post Montreal, Company 3 Toronto and Vision Globale, with francophone post handled at MELS and Folks Montreal for NFB / ONF co-productions. Our coordinators carry tax-credit paperwork stacking CPTC 25% federal labour or PSTC 16% foreign-labour with Ontario OPSTC 21.5%, BC PSTC 28% plus DAVE 16% plus 6% regional, or Quebec QPSTC tiered through to delivery, and route applicable spend through CAVCO certification, Telefilm Canada and the CMF Experimental, Indigenous, Convergent and Performance streams that historically anchor Canadian VR financing.
FAQ
VR Production Expertise
What VR cameras do you use?
We work with professional 360 camera systems including Insta360 Titan, Kandao Obsidian, and RED-based custom rigs. We select cameras based on your resolution requirements, stereoscopic needs, and project budget.
Can you create stereoscopic 3D VR?
Yes, we produce both monoscopic (2D 360) and stereoscopic (3D 360) content. Stereoscopic provides greater depth and immersion but requires more complex capture and post-production. We'll recommend the best approach for your content.
What about spatial audio?
We capture spatial audio using ambisonic microphone arrays that record sound from all directions. In post-production, we mix spatial audio that responds to viewer head movement, creating a complete immersive experience.
Which VR platforms can you deliver for?
We deliver content optimized for all major VR platforms including Meta Quest, Apple Vision Pro, PlayStation VR, and PC VR headsets. We also prepare content for web-based 360 players and social media 360 video.
What makes VR filming different?
VR requires different production approaches—the entire 360 sphere is visible, there's no 'off-camera' space to hide crew and equipment. Directors guide attention rather than controlling frame. We manage these unique challenges.
Can you film at landmarks in Canada?
Yes, we arrange VR filming at iconic Canadian locations from Niagara Falls to Banff National Park, the Rocky Mountains, and Toronto's skyline. We handle permits and ensure professional results.
