Director of Photography Services
Experienced DPs for film, TV, commercials, and documentaries across Canada, from Toronto to Vancouver and Montreal.
The director of photography, also known as the cinematographer, is responsible for the visual language of a film through lighting, camera movement, lens selection, and composition. In Canada, DPs work with extraordinary visual variety—from Vancouver's Pacific light to Montreal's urban textures. They collaborate closely with the director to establish the look and atmosphere of every scene.
We connect you with 100+ directors of photography across Canada whose reels span features, series, commercials, and music videos. Our network includes cinematographers experienced with the latest digital cinema cameras and film formats, many with credits at Pinewood Toronto Studios and international productions.

On Location
Canadian cinematography from an Oscar-winning auteur tier
Here is how the work lines up. The Canadian camera work lineage is anchored by some of the most decorated DPs of the modern era. Roger Deakins shot Sicario, Brokeback Mountain in Alberta, Blade Runner 2049, and 1917 (two Oscars and fifteen nominations) as Denis Villeneuve's standing collaborator. Greig Fraser took the 2022 Best Camera work Oscar for Dune and returned for Dune Part Two on the same Villeneuve creative axis. Hoyte van Hoytema lensed Tenet across Vancouver.
The francophone wing is led by André Turpin (Xavier Dolan's permanent DP — Mommy and Matthias & Maxime), Yves Bélanger (Dallas Buyers Club plus multiple Villeneuve titles), Pierre Gill, and Nicolas Bolduc. Doug Koch and Larry Smith hold the Cronenberg lineage; Steve Cosens is Sarah Polley's standing collaborator.
The Canadian Society of Cinematographers (CSC, set 1957) and Directors of Camera work Canada (DCC) keep the working roster, and the IATSE 669 Camera BC plus IATSE 667 Camera Quebec membership feeds every senior DP in our Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal network — trained through Vancouver Film School, Sheridan, Toronto Metropolitan (formerly Ryerson), Concordia's Mel Hoppenheim School, UBC Film, and L'Inis Montreal.
Matching is brief-driven. We open with reference material, schedule, format, and budget envelope — including CPTC and PSTC federal credits stacked with BC PSTC, Ontario OCASE, Quebec QPCTC, or Alberta FTC eligibility where applicable — then return a curated shortlist of DPs whose reels actually show the tonal range your project needs: Pacific-coast rainforest greens in Whistler and Vancouver Island, Calgary high-plains and Banff alpine light, Quebec urban texture from Old Montreal cobblestones to South Shore industrial, Yukon and NWT aurora and -40C extreme cold, Toronto Pinewood and Cinespace stage camera work, or LED virtual-production work on the Pixomondo Toronto Vol stages.
Camera packages run ARRI Alexa 35, Alexa Mini LF, Sony Venice 2, Burano, RED V-Raptor 8K, and Blackmagic URSA Cine 12K LF — rented through William F. White (Sunbelt Rentals Production work), Sim Digital Toronto and Vancouver, and PS Rentals — with Atlas Orion anamorphics, Cooke S7/i, Zeiss Supreme Primes, and Panavision T-Series readily open. Senior DPs in our roster carry English-working fluency, recent global-production references, and bring their own working relationships with key gaffers and 1st ACs so the camera department arrives pre-composed for day one.

FAQ
Our DP Network
What experience levels of DPs do you provide?
We offer DPs across all experience levels in Canada: emerging cinematographers for indie and low-budget projects, mid-level DPs with solid Canadian commercial and documentary credits, and senior DPs with feature film and international broadcast experience. We match experience to your budget and project requirements.
How do you match DPs to projects?
We review your creative brief, reference materials, and budget to shortlist Canadian DPs with relevant genre experience and aesthetic alignment. You receive curated showreels and can request direct conversations with candidates before booking.
What camera systems do your DPs work with?
Our DPs in Canada are proficient across all major cinema camera systems including ARRI Alexa, RED, Sony Venice, Blackmagic, and Canon cinema lines. Many specialize in specific systems but all are adaptable to production requirements and Canadian rental availability.
Do DPs come with their own equipment?
Some owner-operator DPs in Canada bring personal camera packages, while others work with rented equipment. We coordinate equipment sourcing based on your preference and budget, whether through DP-owned gear, Canadian rental houses, or production-provided equipment.
Can you provide international DPs for shoots in Canada?
Yes. We source international DPs for shoots in Canada, handling logistics and coordination. We also provide Canadian DPs for international productions requiring local cinematography talent abroad.
What's included in DP day rates?
Standard DP day rates in Canada cover on-set cinematography services during production hours. Pre-production work (tech scouts, shot listing, meetings) is typically billed separately. Equipment, camera assistants, and overtime are additional based on project scope.
