Why Us

Why Choose Our Makeup Artists

01.

North American Industry Leaders

Canada's makeup artists work on major Hollywood productions year-round, bringing A-list experience and union-level professionalism. Our network includes artists from IATSE and NABET locals across Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal.

02.

Extreme Cold-Weather Expertise

Canadian winters demand specialized cold-weather makeup techniques. Our artists use frost-protective skincare, wind-resistant products, and rapid indoor-outdoor transition protocols to maintain looks in conditions from mild Vancouver rain to -30°C prairie shoots.

03.

Multicultural Period & Character Work

Canada's multicultural society and history spanning Indigenous, French colonial, and British heritage give our artists deep experience in diverse period looks and culturally informed character design, working with consultants when cultural specificity is required.

04.

Cross-Border Product Access

Proximity to the US gives Canadian productions access to both Canadian professional brands like Joe Blasco and American product lines. Our artists maintain supplier relationships in Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal, plus SFX labs with Hollywood-level capabilities.

On Location

Makeup designers from Donald Mowat's Dune Villeneuve lineage and the CBC telenovela tradition

Here is how the work lines up. Canadian makeup design carries the pedigree of Denis Villeneuve's department-head circle — Donald Mowat anchors that lineage with Oscar nominations on Dune in 2022 and Dune Part Two in 2024 alongside Sicario and Blade Runner 2049, Steven LaPorte built the prosthetics and creature pipeline that Dune's Bene Gesserit and Fremen looks needed, Carol Hartwick has worked the David Cronenberg body-horror tradition through Crash and Crimes of the Future, and Vivian Baker has run the makeup department on the Avatar sequels shooting between Wellington and Vancouver.

Our network draws designers, key artists, prosthetics specialists, and hair-and-makeup department heads from this talent pool plus the formally trained graduates of George Brown College Toronto's makeup program, Vancouver Film School's makeup design diploma, Inter-Dec College Quebec, and Complections Global Toronto. Artists are matched against verified credits across beauty, character, period, and SFX prosthetics, with department heads bringing trusted key artists, hair stylists, and dailies into the brief — including IATSE 873 Toronto, IATSE 891 Vancouver, and AQTIS Montreal members with feature credits.

The Canadian pipeline is reinforced by decades of episodic-television makeup craft at CBC, Radio-Canada, CTV, and Global — a home equivalent of the Latin American telenovela tradition that has trained generations of artists in continuity-heavy long-form schedules with fast turnarounds, prosthetic appliance speed-runs, and HD-camera-ready beauty across varied skin tones.

Cold-weather makeup is a specialty that few markets can match: protocols developed for Quebec winter shoots at minus-thirty Celsius, Yukon and Nunavut Arctic productions, and Banff and Whistler mountain locations include frost-protective skin barriers, wind-resistant cream-based foundations, body-warmer prosthetic curing, and fast indoor-outdoor transition kits.

Productions filming under the CPTC sixteen percent federal credit plus stacking provincial credits in Ontario, British Columbia, Quebec, and Manitoba receive ACTRA-compliant call-time scheduling, NABET 700-M coordination where applicable, bilingual EN/FR set communication, and SFX prosthetic sourcing from FX Smith Toronto, Masters FX Vancouver, and the network of Hollywood-trained appliance labs that service Canadian features and series.

FAQ

Hair & Makeup Expertise

What makeup services do you provide?

We provide complete makeup services including beauty makeup, character and transformation makeup, prosthetic application, special effects makeup, and period-specific looks. Our Canadian artists work across features, television, commercials, and music videos, many with credits on major studio productions.

Do you provide hair styling as well?

Yes, we provide complete hair and makeup departments. Our hair stylists handle all styling needs including cutting, coloring, wig fitting, period hairstyles, and daily maintenance. Canadian stylists work with all hair types and have access to top wig and hairpiece suppliers in Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal.

Can you handle period productions?

Yes, our artists have extensive experience with period productions from Indigenous and colonial-era Canada through early 20th century and mid-century looks. Canada frequently doubles for other locations, so our artists are also skilled at creating American, European, and other period styles.

What about special effects makeup?

We work with skilled SFX makeup artists for prosthetic application, creature effects, aging, injuries, and transformation makeup. Canada has world-class SFX labs in Vancouver and Toronto, many staffed by artists with blockbuster feature credits.

How do you handle large cast productions?

For productions with large principal casts or significant background makeup needs, we provide scaled departments drawing from Canada's deep talent pools in Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal. The volume of productions in these cities means experienced artists are available at scale.

Do you provide makeup tests before production?

Yes, we arrange makeup and hair tests during pre-production to develop and refine looks, test materials under camera, and document continuity references. For winter shoots, we test product performance in cold conditions to ensure formulations hold up on location.
